The Delhi Cabinet has approved the Mahila Samman Yojana, which will provide financial support of Rs 1,000 to women. However, former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has also announced an increase to Rs 2,100. The scheme was approved in a cabinet meeting held earlier today. While the Finance Department had initially raised concerns about the initiative, Arvind Kejriwal referred to it as the seventh “Revdi” of the AAP.

Kejriwal stated that the Delhi government has fulfilled its promise with the launch of the Mahila Samman Yojana. As part of the scheme, Rs 1,000 will be directly transferred to women’s accounts, and this amount will be increased to Rs 2,100 when the government is reformed in 2025. The money will begin to be deposited once registration is complete, emphasizing that this is a right for women.

He further emphasized that he had promised to provide Rs 1,000 to every woman, a proposal that was passed in the cabinet meeting chaired by Atishi this morning. While elections are expected to be announced in the next 10-15 days, the transfer of money may not happen immediately. Some women had raised concerns about inflation, so the scheme has now been revised to offer Rs 2,100 per month, starting with registration tomorrow.

Eligibility for the Scheme:

  • Women aged 18 years and above are eligible.
  • Women not already receiving any government pension, not employed by the government, or not paying income tax can avail of this scheme.
  • To apply, eligible women must fill out a form with a self-declaration stating that they are not part of any government scheme, not a government employee, and not an income taxpayer.
  • Along with the form, they must provide their Aadhaar card and bank account details.

The scheme’s budgetary provision for this financial year is Rs 2,000 crore, aiming to empower half the population. Aam Aadmi Party has expressed confidence that this initiative will strengthen women’s safety and respect, fulfilling their needs without relying on others.
