Britain’s Indo-Pacific Minister Catherine West, during her two-day visit, reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening ties with India. She emphasized that India’s status as an important partner and one of the world’s fastest-growing economies is a key factor driving this collaboration. According to a British government statement, West stated that the UK is dedicated to unlocking the full potential of its bilateral relationship with India.

West also expressed optimism about advancing mutual development goals, building on the ambitions outlined by British Foreign Minister David Lammy during his visit to New Delhi in July. She reiterated the UK’s determination to finalize a mutually beneficial free trade agreement and a bilateral investment treaty. “I am delighted to visit India for the first time as the Indo-Pacific Minister,” West remarked.

She noted that the visit aims to review the Indo-Pacific region’s overall situation and explore avenues for enhancing cooperation in the area. As part of her itinerary, West will attend an education roundtable at the British Council to better understand the unique “living bridge” between India and the UK. Additionally, the minister will visit the historic Jama Masjid to learn about its architecture and heritage.
