Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is set to meet the Lieutenant Governor tomorrow and is expected to submit his resignation
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday at 4:30 PM, during which he is expected to submit his resignation, as reported by PTI.
The chief minister has asked Saxena for permission to meet on Tuesday. He would probably submit his resignation, the Aam Aadmi Party informed the news organization.
According to the PTI report, the Lieutenant Governor has granted Kejriwal an appointment for 4:30 PM on Tuesday.
During a speech to his party workers on Sunday, Kejriwal announced his decision to resign. “I will resign in two days; ask the people whether I am honest. Until they respond, I won’t occupy the CM’s chair. I will only return to the chair after receiving a certificate of honesty from the public. I want to take an ‘agnipariksha’ after coming out of jail,” the 54-year-old leader stated.
Kejriwal made this announcement two days after being released from Delhi’s Tihar Jail, following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant him bail in a corruption case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) related to the Delhi excise policy matter.
‘Kejriwal trusts his people’: Saurabh Bharadwaj
Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj mentioned that a legislative party meeting would be convened to choose the new leader who will take the oath as Chief Minister.
“The Lieutenant Governor will represent the elected official to the President on their behalf. Our MLAs are with us, so that person will be called and will take the oath. I believe this process should be completed within a week,” Bharadwaj told ANI.
“Despite what the Bharatiya Janata Party has done over the last two years, the Chief Minister continues to have faith in the people and in his integrity. The people of Delhi are eager for elections so they can vote and elect Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister again,” the AAP leader added.
