A Moscow-based IVF clinic, AltraVita, has sparked both fascination and controversy by introducing a distinctive offer: free in vitro fertilization (IVF) for women willing to use donor sperm from Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram. The clinic is inviting women under the age of 37 to apply for this “special offer” on its website, claiming to be the only cryobank with exclusive access to Durov’s genetic material. All IVF procedures for applicants will be funded by Durov himself. While the offer could be seen as a windfall, given the high costs associated with IVF, the underlying purpose is to bring a version of the tech mogul’s DNA into the world.

This proposal from AltraVita arrives amid a broader trend where tech industry figures are exploring ways to extend their personal legacy and genetic lineage. Reportedly, Durov is enthusiastic about his “donor” status, asserting that he has fathered over 100 children worldwide. He has even shared plans to “open-source” his DNA so that future offspring can trace their genetic origins back to him. AltraVita’s website features a stock photo of an elated woman to promote their unique offer, suggesting that, for some, the use of Durov’s genetic material is indeed appealing.

However, there is a more complex side to this story. While Durov has achieved success with Telegram, the messaging platform has faced significant criticism. Telegram has been accused of harboring illegal and extremist content, leading some to call it a “safe haven” for certain groups. Recently, in a legal case in Paris, Durov was accused of his platform facilitating criminal activities. With a bail set at 5.5 million dollars, this case reflects an ongoing investigation into the platform’s potential involvement in harmful activities.

AltraVita’s IVF offer reflects a broader trend among prominent tech figures seeking unconventional ways to perpetuate their legacies. From Durov’s “DNA giveaway” to Elon Musk’s multiple partnerships to father children, these initiatives underscore a belief in the lasting significance of their genetic heritage.
