Israel seeks to recruit 10,000 construction workers from India once again
Israel has once again sought assistance from India to address skill shortages by recruiting 10,000 construction workers and 5,000 caregivers to support its infrastructure and healthcare sectors amid the ongoing conflict with Hamas. This comes after a similar request made earlier in the year.
Israel’s Population, Immigration, and Border Authority (PIBA) highlighted its requirement for construction workers in four key areas: framework, iron bending, plastering, and ceramic tiling.
A team from Israel’s Population, Immigration, and Border Authority (PIBA) will travel to India to conduct skill assessments and select candidates who meet their criteria. The recruitment drive for construction workers will take place in Maharashtra.
In parallel, Israel is seeking 5,000 caregivers to strengthen its healthcare services. Eligible candidates must have completed at least Class 10 and possess a certificate from a recognized Indian institute. Additionally, candidates are required to have completed a caregiving course that includes a minimum of 990 hours of practical training.
In a previous recruitment round, 16,832 candidates took part in skill assessments, with 10,349 successfully selected for employment in Israel’s construction sector. These workers receive a monthly salary of ₹1.92 lakh, along with additional benefits such as medical insurance, meals, accommodation, and a monthly bonus of ₹16,515.
Following a government-to-government (G2G) agreement signed in November 2023, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has notified all states to assist in the recruitment process. The initial round of recruitment took place in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Telangana.
The G2G agreement on temporary employment of Indian workers, initiated in May 2023, requires all selected candidates to undergo pre-departure orientation training. This includes a manual to familiarize them with Israeli culture and lifestyle.
“The Indian government’s objective of making India the global hub for skilled labor is in line with this worldwide mobility program. NSDC plays a vital role in this effort by creating a pool of skilled individuals, providing necessary training, offering technical advisories, and facilitating knowledge exchange with global partners,” said an NSDC spokesperson.
This recruitment drive not only addresses Israel’s immediate workforce demands but also strengthens India’s presence in the global skilled labor market.
