Justin Trudeau might adopt Jagmeet Singh’s approach and focus on targeting Hindus in Canada to ensure his political survival
New Delhi: To avoid harassment from pro-Khalistani groups supported by Justin Trudeau, six Indian diplomats, led by High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma, who was recalled by India, have begun packing their bags and are expected to arrive in India by Saturday afternoon on various flights with discreet itineraries.
After the withdrawal, India’s diplomatic presence in Canada will be reduced to nine diplomats, while Canada will maintain a team of 15 diplomats in India. Previously, when India and Canada had stable relations despite Trudeau’s politics, India had 12 resident diplomats in Ottawa, while Canada had 62 resident diplomats in Delhi.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is anticipated to support Jagmeet Singh’s pro-Khalistani New Democratic Party and use his political stance of targeting Canadian Hindus on the grounds that they are hostile to both Sikhs and Muslims to ensure his survival, even though the Canadian government has violated the unwritten rule that does not target diplomats through criminal cases. In addition, Trudeau is anticipated to enlist the help of other Canadian political parties to blame India for the June 18, 2023, death of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, aiming to gain support from his radical Sikh backers, has reached out to the Anglo-Saxon West by updating the Five Eyes Alliance about the diplomatic tensions with India. Meanwhile, Pakistan and its influential military are collaborating with the National Council of Canadian Muslims to create further distance between India and Canada.
Experts following Canadian politics believe that to secure his political future, Trudeau will rely on the Foreign Interference Commission and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to hold India responsible in the case involving terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
“If, as Justin Trudeau has said, the case against Nijjar was so clear-cut, why has the Royal Mounted Canadian Police, the investigating agency, not yet filed a charge sheet? “Why hasn’t the Canadian government provided any proof that Indian agents were involved in the killing of the terrorist from the Khalistan Tiger Force?” said a senior ambassador.
It is clear that Trudeau would exploit the Foreign Interference Commission’s statements of counsel for the banned SFJ to accuse India in an attempt to win Khalistani votes in Canada, as the investigation did not permit any opposing groups to attend the public hearing. One day after the Safety Minister’s deposition before the Commission, on October 16, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to provide a statement. A senior security officer declared, “It is a one-sided investigation. It is a sham. The whole purpose is to discredit India and its government.”
Although the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has not yet filed any charges in the Nijjar murder case, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared India guilty in the Canadian Parliament on September 18 to secure votes from extremist Sikhs. It is believed that Canada’s next step will be to persuade one of the four Sikh youths arrested for Nijjar’s murder to become a witness and use his testimony to accuse India. Since all the arrested individuals are either Canadian citizens or asylum seekers, they may be eager to testify against India in court, where there would be no Indian legal representation.
A bounty of half a million Canadian dollars has already been placed on the head of High Commissioner Sanjay Verma, with Khalistani supporters burning his effigy in Vancouver last Saturday.
While Trudeau aims to accuse India of foreign interference in Canadian elections, Indian intelligence has evidence that officials from the Canadian High Commission in Delhi and its consulate in Chandigarh were secretly engaging with the ruling party in both Delhi and Punjab. The Canadians were also attempting to radicalize the Sikh community in Punjab by supporting the farmers’ movement and promoting a narrative of human rights abuses against the Modi government.
