Pakistan: 20 Dead, Over 30 Injured in Explosion at Quetta Railway Station in Balochistan
At least 20 people were killed and more than 30 others injured in an explosion at Quetta Railway Station in Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Saturday. At the time of the blast, a train was set to depart from the platform for Peshawar, as reported by Pakistan’s Dawn News.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations in Quetta, Mohammad Baloch, indicated that the incident “appears to be a suicide blast,” although he noted it is still too early for confirmation. An investigation is underway to determine the exact nature of the explosion.
SSP Baloch told reporters that “around 100 people” were present at the scene when the blast occurred, according to footage he reviewed, as reported by Dawn News.
In a statement, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that police and security forces had arrived at the site. Rind added that the Bomb Disposal Squad was collecting evidence to establish the cause of the blast, and an official report is expected.
Rind also mentioned that an ‘emergency’ was declared in local hospitals to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured, as reported by Dawn News.
