The Union Minister has made a major announcement, revealing that India will have its own space station by 2035
India is making significant strides in space exploration, with new milestones being reached one after another. Recently, Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, made a major announcement, revealing that India will have its own space station by 2035.
The Union Minister stated, “We are set to build our own space station, which will be called the Indian Space Station, by 2035. Additionally, by 2040, India may land an astronaut on the Moon.”
This announcement follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement after the Gaganyaan mission astronauts were introduced in Thiruvananthapuram on February 27, where he mentioned that India would have its own space station by 2035. Now, with this recent update, that vision seems to be coming closer to reality. Currently, only two countries have space stations, and if India succeeds in establishing its own, it will become the third nation to achieve this historic feat.
India’s first space station, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), has revealed designs for the Indian Space Station (BAS). The BAS, which weighs 52 tons, can initially hold three astronauts, but it will eventually have the capacity to hold six. This material was presented at the Kannada Technical Seminar, which took place at Bengaluru’s UR Rao Satellite Centre.
The BAS is going to be a modular space station that will facilitate space exploration, medical, and biological research. The LVM3 launch vehicle is anticipated to launch the first module in 2028, marking the start of India’s space station endeavor. Once every module is in place, the station should be finished by 2035.
What is a Space Station?
A space station is a spacecraft designed to remain in space for extended periods, essentially serving as a “home” in space. It functions as an artificial satellite with docking ports for astronauts and other spacecraft. Space stations are primarily used for scientific research, but they have also been used for military purposes, making them highly significant in the realm of space exploration.
Up until now, there was only one space station in the world, the International Space Station, built by NASA with international collaboration. China has also established its own space station. If India successfully builds its space station, it will be the third nation to do so, marking a monumental achievement for India, which has been named the “Indian Space Station” (ISS).
