Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira arrived in New Delhi late Saturday to jointly lead the 9th India-Brazil Joint Commission Meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Set for August 27, the meeting is intended to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasized the importance of Vieira’s visit, pointing out that it will give a new boost to the bilateral relationship.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal greeted Vieira’s arrival, stressing the significance of the continued partnership between India and Brazil.

During the visit, Jaishankar and Vieira will review the roles of both countries in advancing key outcomes from India’s G20 Presidency last year.

With Brazil holding the G20 presidency until November 2024, the discussions are anticipated to center on collaborative efforts within the G20 Troika, which includes India, Brazil, and South Africa.

Brazil is set to host the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18–19, a key event on the international agenda.

The G20, comprising 19 countries and two regional bodies, acts as a crucial platform for global economic collaboration.

The MEA noted that India and Brazil have a multifaceted relationship grounded in shared values.

Vieira’s visit will provide a chance to explore new cooperation opportunities across various sectors, building on the strategic partnership established in 2006.

This visit follows India’s delegation, led by Secretary (Economic Relations) Dammu Ravi, participating in the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro in July.
